I have to admit, sometimes God just cracks me up. He will use the most mundane, ordinary thing to get my attention.
Is it just me or does He do that with you too?
Yesterday, He used my GPS.
I have a pretty good sense of direction and can usually find my way anywhere but I was headed to a part of town I’m not too familiar with. I dug the GPS (maybe the world’s greatest techno gadget ever) out of the glove compartment and flipped it on and typed in the address. I thought I pressed all the right buttons but somehow switched it to the night setting.
It was a bright, sunny Florida morning but the screen was almost completely dark. I could barely see the road it was leading me down.
By now, complete frustration has taken over. I keep poking at it in hopes maybe my frustration can will it to change to the day setting. No luck but I could still hear it (don’t you love that lilting British accent? We call ours Fiona) but couldn’t see where I was going. In my annoyed state I blurt out, “come on Lord, help me out here, I can’t see where I’m going!”
Then it hits me. Boom. Loud and clear and God shows me something as He puts His parentheses around a moment to drive truth deep into my spirit.
When you can’t see the road in front of you, listen to my voice for guidance.
I chuckle because He knows me so well. I don’t hear Him in a rumbling or booming voice from heaven. Usually it’s a smack on the head that gets my attention. A GPS for goodness sake. A 21st century gadget. Don’t you love it? But His truth goes deep. His path is the only path and where He leads is the only road I want to travel.
I’m a little nervous to use my crockpot today…heaven knows how He’ll use that to speak to my heart!
What appliance has He used to speak to you lately?
