The After Party of the Empty Nest
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
Most of us have read that scripture and probably know it by heart. It may be familiar but its promises are true. As you begin your empty nest, you’re not only leaving your child behind, but the life you knew so well. There’s no muscle memory when your kids leave, you are experiencing this for the first time. But, regardless of what emotions are swirling around right now, you have not been put out to pasture.
You can dread the changes you’re experiencing, or you can see them as an opportunity for new adventures. The positive?
Significantly more free time, slower mornings, opportunities to volunteer and help others, less expensive meals out, extra time to take care of yourself, and your moment to learn something new. Your future and purpose didn’t leave when your kids did.
It’s a brand-new chapter, and God is already writing beauty into every line. You can trust His pen and His heart because He is the Author of hope. You can’t see the full path ahead, but you don’t have to. All you need to do is take one small step at a time, knowing He has all you need and is well aware of the tumult of emotions you’re experiencing.
It takes a brave heart to step forward even when the path is dimly lit. But all any of us need is to see the step right in front of us. We may not fully understand the end from the beginning, but God does. He knows precisely where He’s taking you and He only asks that you trust and follow.

About the Author
Here’s a little bit about me. I’ve been married to my adorable husband, Mike, for more than four decades. Growing up in New Jersey, I never saw myself living in Tennessee, but seven grandchildren will draw a grandmother like a moth to a flame!
We absolutely love Tennessee, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. We’ve been here eight years , and this Jersey girl finds herself saying “y’all” more than I ever imagined!
I started a little food blog back in 2010 before most social media existed, and my little blog has turned into three books. And I wasn’t a writer! But God has funny ways of daring us to go further than we ever imagine, and taking our lives on ninety degree turns that we never saw coming.
Now, because I took God’s dare, I can call myself a writer, podcaster, and speaker, and I can’t imagine doing anything else! God can change our lives in an instant, if we are willing to step out and bungee-jump with Him into our unexpected future!
